Finding Your Way through the Storm

When you’re providing care for a loved one with memory loss, life can often feel like being caught in a stormy outgoing tide—constantly pulling, constantly demanding. Swells rise without warning, and the horizon we once recognized disappears behind a wall of mist and spray. As caregivers, we tumble to and fro trying to find our footing.
When the idea of The Lighthouse came to mind, the imagery wasn't chosen simply because I’ve always loved the beauty and history of lighthouses. I chose it because of a fundamental truth:
In the middle of a storm, everyone needs a fixed point to find their way home.
When I envisioned The Lighthouse, I didn't just see a beacon. I imagined a safe haven. Not a haven where the storms of life are ignored; it’s a place where you’re given the shelter necessary to face them. As the custodian of this safe haven, my role is to keep the beacon burning, the hearth warm and the windows clear. Inside these walls, the noise of the crashing waves softens, enabling The Lighthouse to provide the space to reflect, the tools to navigate, and the quiet strength required to continue the journey.
While the lighthouse stands tall above the cliffs, providing shelter, we recognize that you–the family caregiver–are the anchor. You’re doing the most important work beneath the surface, in the quiet depths. You are the one holding the line, ensuring that even when the winds change, your loved one remains moored to hope, to comfort, and to home.
But even the strongest anchor can feel the strain of the pull. In our safe haven, we honor that weight. We understand that being an anchor requires a different kind of strength—a quiet, enduring resilience that often goes unnoticed by those on the shore.
The Lighthouse is who you call to be restored. It is where the “salty sand” of the daily struggle is washed away, and where you can find the perspective that only comes from sharing your struggles, fears, and perhaps even anger, with someone who truly understands because I’ve walked it with both parents.
At The Lighthouse, we invite you to:
Rest your watch: Let us help hold the lantern for a while.
Find your bearings: Use our resources to chart a clearer path forward.
Connect with the shore: Remember that you are part of a community that understands the rhythm of the tide.
Whether you’re seeking a moment of peace, a map for the journey ahead, or a midwife for the soul,
Welcome to The Lighthouse, hope for your caregiving journey.
"The lantern's glow doesn't change the height of the waves, but it reveals the path through them."
